EVENT CODE OF CONDUCT

 

Statement of values

At Women in Data®, we champion gender equality in the data industry, fostering a community that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Our core values:

  • Equity: We ensure that fairness guides our decisions and actions, fostering an environment where everyone is treated justly and with respect. 

 

Expected behaviours 

  • Respect: Treating ALL members of the community with the same level of respect, ensuring respect of consent and any other boundaries expressed. 
 
  • Inclusive: Leading always with kindness & actively removing barriers to ensure everyone is able to participate in the conversation. 
  • Open-minded: Allowing people to feel safe to express their truth by having an open minded & empathetic outlook to viewpoints different from your own. 
  • Uplifting: Empowering others, cheerleading their successes & championing others on your journey. 

  

Unacceptable behaviour 

  • Discrimination: Any form of discrimination is not tolerated, regardless of the protected characteristic. This includes public, private & online incidents. 
  • Harassment: Any form of lack of consent and other boundary crossing, including intimidation, unwanted attention, stalking and invasive photography or recording. 
  • Disrespect: Including ANY member of our community - staff, volunteers and members. As well as disruptive behaviour to the running of the event or sessions, including heckling and talking throughout. 
  • Hierarchical behaviour: All members of our community are of equal importance and any behaviour suggesting differently will not be tolerated, such as queue cutting and pushing.
  • Active by-standing: Advocating or encouraging any of the above unacceptable behaviours, or allowing them to go unreported.

  

Reporting & enforcing 

If you witness any violation of the Code of Conduct, please report it immediately. All reports will be taken seriously & investigated. 

  

Consequences 

All reports will be fully investigated, ensuring all parties are given the opportunity to speak to Women in Data® staff on the matter. Each report will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, consequences may include: 

  • Warnings 
  • Expulsion from Women in Data® events 
  • Banning from future Women in Data® events 
  • Law enforcement contact if appropriate 

 

Periodic review

Women in Data® is committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and empowering community. To ensure that this Code of Conduct continues to reflect our values and support the needs of our members, the Women in Data® Leadership Team will conduct an annual review of the document.

We welcome and encourage feedback from all members of our community to help us strengthen and evolve our practices.

Addressing grievances

If you believe you have been incorrectly or unfairly accused of breaching this Code of Conduct, you are encouraged to raise your concern with a member of the event organising team. Please provide a clear and concise description of your grievance.

All concerns will be reviewed in a fair, respectful, and confidential manner, in line with Women in Data®’s established policies and commitment to equity and inclusion.

 

By remaining a member of the Women in Data® community and attending events organised by Women in Data®, you confirm you agree to these guidelines.
