Sarah Schlobohm
Job Title
Head of AI
Employer
Kubrick
Speaker Bio
Sarah joined Kubrick in May 2022 to lead training and development of Kubrick’s Machine Learning Engineering practice. She combines experience from across academia, consulting, and within global organisations to shape a programme which is focussed on delivering business value through today’s most relevant AI tools and techniques.
After completing a PhD in Experimental Particle Physics from the University of Washington, Sarah moved to the UK to undertake a graduate scheme with PwC, qualifying as a Charted Accountant with ICAEW. She then turned her focus to data science in financial services, taking roles such as Senior Analytics Manager and, subsequently, Head of Financial Crime Risk Assessment Portfolio at HSBC. Throughout her career, Sarah has enjoyed mentoring junior data professionals within her teams, using her passion for teaching to create training platforms and pathways.
As well as her deep technical knowledge and making sure we keep up to date with the latest technology, Sarah is interested in the ethical and regulatory challenges that AI brings, plus the biases that need to be overcome to ensure AI algorithms serve organisations and individuals alike. She encourages all her Kubrick colleagues to consider the dilemmas which were only recently matters of science fiction, and bring creative-thinking, empathy, and problem-solving skills to their work, not just a mathematical mindset. As a former consultant herself, Sarah is excited to be lending her skill and experience to Kubrick’s agile and fast-growing business model, which gives consultants and clients alike a more effective and sustainable means to tackle the vast array of challenges that all industries are facing in a rapidly shifting technology landscape.
In regard to diversity, Sarah is an advocate for encouraging more women and other people from under-represented groups to pursue a career in data, AI, and technology and has a strong record of hiring women into technical roles. She has helped numerous women secure senior positions within their organisation through ongoing mentoring and support. Sarah regularly speaks at careers events that are specifically designed to attract young women and non-binary students towards careers in technology and is a huge supporter of Women in Data – having connected with Kubrick at a Women in Data event.
